Selected by UNESCO to be this year's Arab Capital of Culture, Doha is celebrating with over 70 events in just the first quarter of the year.
Qatar is expected to be a global cultural hub throughout 2010 with a number of performances, exhibitions and films to showcase art and culture in the Arab world.
"We are glad to assume this responsibility," said Qatari Minister of Culture, Hamad al-Kawari.
"It is an historic responsibility not only for Qatar but for the whole Arab culture. Our slogan for this celebration is 'Arab Culture, Our Nation, Doha its Capital'," he added.
Among the events will be a number of cultural weeks, focusing on different countries.
"As for the cultural weeks, the Moroccan week will take place next month and it will be followed by other Arab and non-Arab countries like Iran, India, Turkey and European countries like France who will have a remarkable participation," Kawari said.
The Arab Capital of Culture is an initiative by UNESCO which aims to promote and recognise Arab culture, as well as encourage co-operation in the Arab region.
Doha takes over the title from Jerusalem, which held the honour in 2009. Close
