COLOMBIA: Medellin River turns red

Please read the Disclaimer

Colombian authorities conduct tests on water from Medellin River after it turns red. People in Medellin, Colombia woke up on Tuesday (October 06) to a scene reminiscent of bad biblical omens-- the waters of the Medellin River ran red through the middle of town. Officials suspect either a prank or the illegal dumping of ink or dye by one of the many factories on the banks of the river. Mauricio Faciolince, the head of the city's biggest environmental organization, said whatever turned the river red does not appear to be toxic. "The analysis has put as at ease because it is still an organic product. It does not represent any risk for the citizens or the bio-fauna that live around the Medellin River," Faciolince said. Authorities were looking for traces of the chemical around the area where it may have been dumped to try to identify who turned the river red.
