Clip Story:

BERLIN, GERMANY (JUNE 11, 2009) (REUTERS)
EXTERIOR GERMAN MINISTRY OF ECONOMY
BRITISH AND GERMAN FLAG
INTERIOR ARRIVAL GERMAN ECONOMY MINISTER KARL-THEODOR ZU GUTTENBERG AND BRITISH BUSINESS SECRETARY PETER MANDELSON
JOURNALISTS TAKING NOTES

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERMAN ECONOMY MINISTER KARL-THEODOR ZU GUTTENBERG, SAYING:
"It is more than important to keep ties with other potential investors and those who are interested in the European GM structures alive. Right now, there are certainly negotiations taking place between Magna and GM, but as we all know, negotiations can fail. We hope that this is not the case and we try our best that there will be a success at the end of the day. But nevertheless, we certainly still have our ties to those who are interested. There is a Chinese investor who showed interest during the last two weeks and there have been talks in my ministry over here, as well."

JOURNALISTS LISTENING

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERMAN ECONOMY MINISTER KARL-THEODOR ZU GUTTENBERG, SAYING "I think it is a question also of responsibility, not to cut the ties to others."

LISTENERS

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GERMAN ECONOMY MINISTER KARL-THEODOR ZU GUTTENBERG, SAYING:
"As Fiat showed interest more or less up until the last day, I think that they are still keeping an eye on the structures they have left behind at the moment."

GUTTENBERG AND MANDELSON, PAN TO LISTENERS

(SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH BUSINESS SECRETARY PETER MANDELSON, SAYING:
"As I said, GM's preferred bidder is Magna. I will be having further discussions with the Magna CEO later this morning. I know you are also in close touch. It's not possible to predict conclusively that the Memorandum of Understanding we have now will translate into a final agreement. We hope it will, but we have also to keep some mind open to alternatives."
