The remains of the Curtain Theatre, which was the Bard's second playhouse, have been discovered there during groundwork for a development in Shoreditch. Archaeologists have found the walls which formed the gallery and the yard of the playhouse. The Curtain Theatre was the main venue for Shakespeare's plays between 1597 and 1599, including "Romeo and Juliet".
