Bodies of three Jordanian peace-keepers killed in the Haiti earthquake last week are repatriated for burial.
The bodies of three Jordanian peace-keeping military officers killed in last week's earthquake in Haiti returned to Jordan on Tuesday (January 19), where they were received by Jordan's King Abdullah and his wife, Queen Rania.
Military officials said 23 soldiers were also slightly injured in the devastating quake which hit on January 12, but were left on base to help with rescue efforts.
Draped in the Jordanian flag, the coffins were carried by Jordanian honour guards on a red carpet stretched along the airport tarmac.
King Abdullah, who is also chief commander of the military, attended the event and offered condolences to relatives of the killed peace-keepers.
The pro-west kingdom has nearly 2,000 peace-keeping officers serving under the United Nations (UN) peace-keeping mission in Haiti.
Army officials said the contingency is undertaking the task of guarding areas designated to receive aid missions to prevent looting.
Haitian officials say as many as 200,000 people are estimated to have died from the quake which left the capital Port-au-Prince in ruins.
