Meeting of UEFA Executive Committee to decide Euro 2012 final's venue and investigation of match-fixing begins in Madeira.
The UEFA Executive Committee meeting, chaired by UEFA president Michel Platini, began in Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira on Thursday (December 10) and should end on Friday (December 11) with an announcement of where the final of the Euro 2012 tournament will be held.
The tournament is jointly being hosted by Poland and Ukraine in June and July of 2012 but Ukraine's progress was criticised in an earlier meeting in May.
Both Ukraine and Poland were supposed to have four cities capable of hosting the tournament and one each that is capable of hosting the final.
In May, UEFA confirmed that Warsaw was capable of hosting the final and Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan were capable of hosting other matches. But UEFA could only confirm that Ukraine's Kiev was capable of hosting other matches and decided Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv had to be improved in order to host any games.
The deadline for this improvement was November 30 and the meeting in Funchal will hear whether Ukraine has responded with action that meets the requirements.
The delegates will also hear an update on UEFA's betting fraud detection system, deriving information from London betting outlets to spot possible match-fixing.
German authorities are investigating domestic league matches and a number of European fixtures for possible match-fixing. These included seven Europa League matches in July and August of this year which UEFA is investigating with particular interest in the activities of three referees and one other individual connected with UEFA, the association said.
