The French football team spoke about their preparations ahead of the 2010 Football World Cup in a news conference at Clairefontaine near Paris on Monday (August 10).
France is scheduled to play a qualifier away against the Faroe islands on Wednesday (Aug 12) in Torshavn; four more qualifiers follow.
"We have five matches. For me they are five finals. We can't afford to lose them. It starts with a match against the Faroe Islands. A match that is not going to be easy because everyone is not in the same condition physically. Its never easy to play matches like this, you have to be well focused and to score quickly because this is a team that is going to defend quite a bit," said French player Jeremy Toulalan.
The team will play without Thierry Henry who is suffering from an injury. Henry cannot travel with France because of pain in both Achilles tendons, his Barcelona club said on their website.
France will also be without Patrick Vieira for Wednesday's match after being left out by coach Raymond Domenech, leaving the French without their two most experienced players.
Whether key player Frank Ribery will play on Wednesday is also uncertain.
"There are other players in the selection. It's true that Frank is a good player, but there are other players who are capable of doing just as well, and who don't necessarily have the same qualities as him but who will do just as well," Toulalan said.
With five qualifiers ahead of them, the team seems enthusiastic and optimistic about their performance.
"I think that we are getting better and better in the game. You said that we didn't push ourselves enough, we are trying to do more and more and we are also starting to get more experience because after all we are a pretty young team," Toulalan said.
France lie second in Group Seven with 10 points from five matches, eight points behind leaders Serbia, who have played two more games. The Faroe Islands are bottom of the group with one point from five games.
