Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore arrived at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday (January 17) for the premiere of Ashton's upcoming film, "Spread". It tells the story of a high-end lothario, Nikki (Ashton Kutcher), who has slept his way into a life of privilege. He host parties and beds scores of women, all the while living it up at the Hollywood Hills home of a middle-aged female attorney played by Anne Heche. Everything is fine until he meets a pretty waitress who is playing the same game.
"For every person who gets to experience Los Angeles the way I do, where you stand in front of cameras, you are up on a big screen, you stand on the red carpet, there are 5,000 people who come to Los Angeles every day with that dream, that have to find another means of survival," explained Kutcher, in describing the motivation for his character in the film.
"Sometimes that means abusing the people closest to you when the survival methods kick in."
For Heche, the opportunity to play the role of Samantha was a stroke of good fortune.
"I was lucky because I was kind of in a funny position because someone else was supposed to play the role," said Heche. "I was fortunate to get the script and I made a really fast decision, there was no hesitation. I really connected with it. I was just in a lucky moment."
"Spread" is one of the 218 films that were invited to compete at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
