The mayor of Moscow has presented Michael Jackson with a plate in recognition of the pop star's charity projects in the Russian capital. Earlier, the singer was mobbed by fans when he went for a stroll in Red Square.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Mayor Yuri Luzhkov presented Jackson with a decorated plate at an emotional ceremony at Moscow city hall on Monday (September 16).
The mayor said it was in recognition of the charity projects which Jackson had funded in Moscow.
A smiling Jackson, who was accompanied as usual by children, responded that he had fallen in love with the capital.
As he left the building, fans chanting "Michael, Michael" surged forward for a glimpse of the pop star.
Earlier, Jackson took a stroll through Red Square, where he was mobbed by teenaged fans.
The singer, who was wearing his trademark black surgical mask, abandoned his walk and scurried back to his van when the fans tried to get too close.
Jackson arrived in Moscow on Sunday (September 15) on the fourth leg of his "History World Tour". He will give a concert at Dynamo Stadium on Tuesday (September 17), which 45,000 fans are expected to attend.
The 38-year-old Jackson chose Eastern Europe and Russia to launch his first tour in three years, seen as a bid to put his career back on track after allegations of child molestation.
The three-month tour takes him to Europe, Africa and Asia.
