---------------------------------------------------- Pop star Michael Jackson repeated his controversial "Christ-like" performance of 'Earth Song' when he appeared at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo on Wednesday (May 8).
When Jackson performed the song at the British music awards in February it sparked a protest by Jarvis Cocker, the lead singer of the group Pulp.
Cocker claimed he was offended by Jackson's 'Christ-like' performance when he encouraged children to approach him on stage.
This time there was no protest.
As the stars arrived for rehearsals, Jackson's brother Jermaine confirmed the group that started it all for the Jackson clan, "The Jackson 5", would reform.
Jermaine said the group would record an album and launch a tour in 1997.
"The last time we performed together was 12 years ago," he said. "We've been writing a lot of songs and we thought we should get out and do it one more time." Michael and his four older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon first performed together at a talent show in 1964. They then formed the band "The Ripples and Waves, Plus Michael" before ending up as "The Jackson 5".
In the late 1960s and early 1970s the group had four consecutive number one singles -- "I Want You back', "ABC", "The Look You Save" and "I'll Be There".
The group went on to sell more than 100 million records and broke many box office records with their live concerts.
Monaco's Princess Stephanie and her brother Prince Albert attended a rehearsal for the awards ceremony earlier on Wednesday.
Diana Ross, recipient of an award for lifelong contribution to music, was also there, as well as the ever-present contingent of supermodels including Helena Christiansen and Nadja Aubermann.
The annual awards in Monaco draw millions of television viewers as well as stars including Zuccero, Seal, Bo Derek, Tony Bennett and Ursula Andress. Close
