StoryIn Scotland today (12 October) Queen Elizabeth had to be protected from jostling students in an unprecedented scene at Stirling University, where she was opening a new building.
Police and members of the Royal Party held back a throng of demonstrators who shouted "Queen out!" sang obscene songs and at one point flung a stink bomb.
The students were complaining about the amount of money that was spent on the Queen's visit.
The Queen appeared unruffled through it all and a Buckingham Palace spokesman said this evening she was not unduly concerned by the activities of the demonstrators.

Special branch men moved in to stop the demonstration. Later, as the Queen was about to leave, the crowd spilled out onto the lawns and moved round her. Again police hold them back as they waved their fists and shouted abuse. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said this evening that the Queen was not involved in any of the scuffles, nor was she unduly concerned by the activities of the demonstrators."
