(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DIRECTOR OF ART RESIDENCE ALEY AND EXHIBITION ORGANISER, RAGHAD MARDINI, SAYING:
"Our goal is to ensure that the artwork of these young Syrian artists is able to reach as many people as possible, especially in these difficult times and with the changes that are taking place in Syria. So we hope to reach as many people as possible, and show them that the Syrian people are more than just a number of coffins. The Syrian people are very much alive, they have a lot of creativity and energy to offer, and they deserve to have normal lives for themselves and their children."

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DIRECTOR OF ART RESIDENCE ALEY AND EXHIBITION ORGANISER, RAGHAD MARDINI, SAYING:
"There is a lot of beauty in Syria. It is true that now, all we see is violence, killing and death, but on the inside beauty still exists. We can, through art, defeat all the problems we are facing, the issues that are intruding on the Syrian society. God willing we will be able to love each other again, and re-build our country."

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) JORDANIAN ARTIST, MOHAMMED JAROUS, SAYING:
"The impact of what is happening in their country now, in Syria, is not directly relayed in the artwork. However the techniques used, the tendency to use dark colours, black and its derivative, white and its derivatives also, all this points to the fact that there is much suffering."
