100 GREATEST ...
THE 100 GREATEST FAMILY FILMS (PART ONE)
Family films have been with us as long as Hollywood itself, enjoyed by both children and adults across the generations. In this Christmas special we chart the history of the family film and celebrate the way in which it has developed over the decades from classic films, to cartoons, to modern days blockbusters. The biggest names in the industry from directors , to animators to the stars themselves join together to reveal the behind- the-scenes stories, the big budget shoots, the technological breakthroughs, the near-fatal disasters, the difficult relationships between star and director and the effect that these fun-packed films have had on the world. Just a few of the names to join this star-studded line up include Steven Spielberg (ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark), John Travolta (Grease), Jon Voigt (Holes), Jean Simmons (Great Expectations), Rupert Grint ( Harry Potter) and technical wizard Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts). The list includes classics like The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Whistle Down the Wind through to Star Wars and ET, and modern hits like the School of Rock. The programme also traces developments in the animation industry from the original Disney cartoons like Snow White and Fantasia, to Pixar's The Incredibles and the more home grown talent from the Aardman camp, Chicken Run. We hear from those who made it all happen in front of, and behind the camera. Broadcast over two evenings this 6 hour programme counts down from 100-1 to reveal the Greatest Ever Family Film as voted for by Channel Four viewers.
