Three films vying for the ultimate movie accolade at the 83rd Academy Awards on 27th February are also being supported by ITN, which provided archive news footage to each of the productions.
Multi-nominated The King’s Speech and Documentary (Feature) nominees Exit Through the Gift Shop and Inside Job all include footage from ITN’s vast archive. ITN Source, the footage sales arm of ITN, worked with producers of each of the films to supply footage from iconic moments in history.
ITN Source supplied historical drama The King’s Speech with Reuters footage of King George’s Coronation, news clips of speeches made by Adolf Hitler and images from World War Two.
Fellow British production Banksy documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop features footage licensed from ITN of graffiti works, Banksy exhibition openings and an urban art auction to help tell the story of the rise of a street artist.
Inside Job uses footage from ITN Source’s purpose-made Financial Crisis Compilation to help tell the story of the recent economic crisis.
“The critical and commercial success of these films shows that there’s a real appetite for stories grounded in real events,” said Asha Oberoi, Managing Director of ITN Source. “We are seeing an increasing number of producers using archive footage to add authenticity to events depicted in their films. Currently ITN Source supplies approximately one in six British films with archive footage.”
